What is this?
A Jangleheart Circus is a three-day (mostly improv) comedy festival organized by the Upstairs Gallery at the Den Theatre on August 21st, 22nd, and 23rd. It’s features Upstairs Gallery house teams, regular UG productions, some fun out of town folks, and other awesome Chicago shows.
Because it was such a blast last year! Did you go? Oh man, it was way fun. For real though, we’re lucky to live in a city where there is so much fantastic comedy being created and performed so frequently. We’ve been extra lucky to work with so many talented folks through the Upstairs Gallery. This festival is a celebration of all the fantastic stuff thats going on right now. So come enjoy, laugh, and celebrate with us.
What is different this year?
- We got a fourth stage. So even more shows!
- EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE! Our poster marketplace! We invite the talented community of Chicago printmakers to create a poster pieces that celebrates the independent spirit behind the festival — comedy that is experimental, collaborative and electric! You'll be able to find the posters in the main section of the Den!
- Ticket prices are increasing to $25 for 1 day passes and $60 for 3 day passes
Can I submit my improv team/sketch group/other thing?
Not anymore! Submissions closed May 31st.
Why no teams from other theaters?
We said it best last year--
“Basically, those teams have homes, and places they can play. We have invited a few established teams, but our goal is to showcase groups and ideas that originated elsewhere. We’re proud of the spirit and passion that independent teams put into every show at the Upstairs Gallery, and we want that reflected in our festival.”
What’s the Den Theatre like?
It’s great! It is a multi theater complex in the Wicker Park Neighborhood of Chicago. We sprung to rent out the ENTIRE place this year with 4 theaters and 3 lobby spaces.
Check out more info at their site- http://www.thedentheatre.com/
Is this going to be BYOB like your other shows are?
No, the Den has a bar and we’d encourage you to drink from it.
When will you announce the schedule?
Just went live! Take a peep!
When do tickets go on sale?
ON SALE NOW!
Why day passes? Why can’t I buy a ticket to see the one show I really want to see?
Because we want you to come and see a TON of shows! If you want to just see that one team, you can do that all year long. Chances are you can catch any of the groups performing often all over the city. The idea behind Jangleheart Circus is to expose audiences and performers to creative shows that they might not be familiar with. In addition we’re making a big effort this year to increase the quality of shows even further.
So I’m buying a ticket at there is no guarantee I’ll get to see everything that I want?
It may happen, and we’re sorry for that. BUT! We’re going to have shows going on four stages, so if you get shut out of one show, there are going to be two other great groups playing at the same time. Plus, we’re going to have some cool stuff going on in the lobby area as well.
Will you answer my specific question?
Probably! Shoot an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and put “JANGLEHEART” in the subject. We’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
We can't wait to see you in at the Festival!
